Rossendale Ramblers Enjoy Scenic Reservoir and Tower Walks
Rossendale Ramblers Enjoy Reservoir and Tower Walks

Rossendale Ramblers have reported a quieter week following recent full-on schedules, but still enjoyed two scenic walks. On Wednesday, the hottest day of the year so far, 15 ramblers set out from Warland on the Rochdale Canal for a 10-mile walk titled 'Seven Reservoirs and the Rochdale Canal Summit'. The route delivered exactly as promised, showcasing the canal's unique crossing of the Pennines, which flows both east and west with 91 locks along its 32-mile length. The walk also passed seven reservoirs, including Gaddings Reservoir, where a number of cows were seen cooling off.

Sunday Stroll to Jubilee Tower

On Sunday, slightly cooler conditions with a brief early shower did not deter 14 walkers from enjoying a lovely six-mile walk from Bold Venture Park in Darwen. The highlight was the ascent of Jubilee Tower, which commemorates the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. Stunning views from the tower and various points along the route made the walk one to remember.

Upcoming Walks in July

Looking ahead, on Sunday, July 5, a six-mile leisurely walk from Radcliffe is planned, exploring local countryside, canal, and reservoirs, including Elton Reservoir. The walk is expected to finish by 1.30pm, leaving ample time for family activities. On Wednesday, July 8, a fairly gentle nine-mile walk will start from Yarrow Valley Country Park, visiting Coppull, Jolly Tar Lane, White Bear Marina, and Drybones Wood.
