Historic Lowsonford Pub Unveils Spring Event Line-Up with Local Collaborations

The Fleur de Lys pub, a cherished 15th-century inn nestled in the picturesque village of Lowsonford, Warwickshire, is gearing up to welcome spring with an exciting array of special activity days. In a bid to offer more than just its award-winning pies and pints, the pub is partnering with local businesses to host events that blend creativity, family fun, and literary appreciation.

Candle Making and Painting Workshops for Adults

On Thursday, March 12, The Artibus Yard, based in Kenilworth, returns for an evening of guided candle making led by Samantha Harris. This hands-on session, starting at 7pm, will teach participants the art of soy wax candle making, including exploring scents, mastering pouring techniques, and adding finishing touches. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills, attendees will leave with their own handcrafted jar candle, two tea lights, and the knowledge to continue creating at home. The event also includes a complimentary glass of fizz and nibbles, with an opportunity to purchase a limited-edition Fleur de Lys diffuser.

Later in the month, on Thursday, March 26, local artist Lisa Lowe will lead a Sip and Paint Workshop from 7pm to 9.30pm. Guests will be guided through the artistic process using acrylic paint to create their own mini masterpiece. The ticket price covers a welcome drink, a grazing board, and all necessary materials. Tickets for both these adult-focused events are priced at £35 each.

Family-Friendly Easter Celebration

Shifting focus to family fun, on Sunday, April 5, the pub gardens will host The Good Day Farm, bringing a menagerie of creatures for visitors to meet. The day will feature an Easter theme with a family egg hunt, arts and crafts activities, and egg and spoon races. Starting at 9.30am, tickets are £12.50 for children, while adults can attend for free, making it an affordable outing for all ages.

World Book Night with Local Author Anna Byk

On April 23, coinciding with World Book Night and the #ReadingHour, local author Anna Byk from Solihull will take the spotlight. She will discuss her debut novel, 'It's Never Really Over,' which focuses on five women linked by their stories and is partially set in Warwickshire, with references to Stratford, Shakespeare, and other local landmarks. The event, running from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, will include a talk on her writing and publishing journey, followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity to buy signed copies of the book. This date nearly marks UNESCO International Day of the Book, chosen in honour of the day Shakespeare and Cervantes both died in 1616. Free tickets are available, with booking advised.

Owner's Vision for Community Engagement

Owner Emma Woodhouse expressed enthusiasm for the events, stating, "We're always keen to give people plenty of reasons to visit the Fleur De Lys beyond the obvious pie and a pint, so it's really exciting to have a buffet of different events for customers to feast on." She emphasized the importance of keeping historic buildings like the pub in active use, especially amid rising hospitality costs, and highlighted the value of collaborating with local small businesses and artisans. "Collaborating with other local small businesses and artisans is our favourite thing to do, so we hope plenty of people will come and enjoy something new at The Fleur this Spring," she added.

The Fleur De Lys, located on the banks of the Stratford Canal in Lowsonford, boasts an acre of garden land and is a popular stop-off for canal users, enhancing its appeal as a community hub.
