The semi-final line-up for Strictly Come Dancing 2025 has been confirmed following a dramatic and controversial elimination that has left the show's fanbase reeling.
Shock Dance-Off Sees Favourite Axed
In a stunning result on Sunday night's results show, former Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope was sent home despite a dazzling run in the competition. His exit came after a tense dance-off against former Love Island star and West End performer Amber Davies, who had scored a perfect 40 from the judges just the night before.
The final decision, which factored in the judges' scores and the public vote, meant that Amber and her professional partner Nikita Kuzmin survived to dance another week. Judge Anton Du Beke summed up the feeling of disbelief in the studio, stating: "The person who goes home will be the best dancer to not have made the semi-final."
Heartfelt Goodbyes and Fan Fury
Following his elimination, a gracious Lewis Cope told host Tess Daly: "It’s been more than I could have ever wished for... It’s been incredible and a memory that I’ll have for the rest of my life." His professional partner, Katya Jones, paid an emotional tribute, calling him "one of, if not, the best male celebrity we’ve ever had on the show" and praising his kindness and humility.
However, on social media platform X, viewers expressed their fury at the outcome. One fan declared the result "ludicrous", while another simply stated they were "absolutely fuming". A third commented: "Cannot believe Lewis went home! This was a huge mistake, the competition will not be the same without him…" Another viewer argued the dance-off itself was "criminal", given the high calibre of both contestants.
The Final Four Prepare for the Semi-Final
With Lewis's departure, the four couples progressing to the semi-final are now confirmed. Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin will be joined by:
- Balvinder Sopal (EastEnders actress) and her partner.
- George Clarke (internet star) and his partner.
- Karen Carney (former Lioness and sports broadcaster) and her partner.
The remaining celebrities will battle it out in next weekend's crucial semi-final. The main show will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 6.35pm on Saturday, with the results show following at 7.45pm on Sunday.
