Camera crews have been spotted in Birmingham city centre, believed to be filming episodes of the hit BBC series Silent Witness. The action has been taking place around Cornwall Street, New Market Street, and The Old Contemptibles pub, continuing the show's strong connection to the city.
Filming Locations
Sources suggest that actors from the series, which is available on BBC iPlayer, were filming on the evening of Monday, April 27, outside The Lightwell apartment building on Cornwall Street and around The Old Contemptibles pub. Photos show activity around an old Volvo parked near New Market Street, adding to the intrigue.
Birmingham as a Backdrop
The last series of Silent Witness was set in Birmingham, with the team opening the doors to the fictional forensic pathology base, the Sir William Bowman Centre of Excellence. Series 29 saw Dr. Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox), Jack (David Caves), Harriet (Maggie Steed), and Kit (Fran Mills) facing some of their toughest cases yet in the city.
Emilia Fox has previously spoken warmly about filming in Birmingham, describing it as a beautiful city with incredible industrial buildings that make the history of Birmingham feel present. She praised the canals as striking and noted that the locations give the series a different aesthetic feel. Fox also highlighted the warm welcome from people in the city and enjoyed exploring the different quarters, including the Jewellery Quarter and the Balti Triangle.
Previous Filming
Earlier in March 2025, St. Paul's Church was used to film scenes for the show, further cementing Birmingham's role as a key filming location for the long-running drama.
Fans of the show will be eager to see how these new scenes feature in upcoming episodes, as the production continues to make the most of Birmingham's diverse and historic settings.
