Birmingham travellers can save up to £200 a year with Vodafone's new unlimited roaming SIM card, which includes free data in more than 50 destinations worldwide. The deal, announced this week, targets frequent flyers and holidaymakers who often face hefty roaming charges.
How the Savings Work
The SIM card, available on selected pay-monthly plans, allows users to use their UK data allowance abroad without extra fees. Vodafone's Global Roaming Plus add-on covers popular destinations such as Spain, France, Italy, and the United States. According to Vodafone, a typical user spending two weeks abroad could save up to £200 compared to standard roaming rates.
Birmingham-based travel expert Sarah Jenkins said: 'This is a game-changer for anyone who travels regularly. The savings are significant, especially for families or business travellers.'
Coverage and Eligibility
The offer is available to new and existing customers on selected Vodafone pay-monthly plans. The unlimited roaming applies to data, calls, and texts within the included destinations. Customers can check eligibility via the My Vodafone app or website.
Vodafone has also introduced a new SIM-only plan starting at £10 per month, which includes 5GB of data and unlimited roaming. Higher-tier plans offer more data and additional benefits.
Impact on Birmingham Travellers
Birmingham Airport handles over 12 million passengers annually, many of whom could benefit from the new SIM. The deal is particularly attractive for those travelling to the US, where roaming charges can be high. Vodafone estimates that a Birmingham family of four could save up to £800 on a two-week holiday to Florida.
Local business owner Mark Thompson said: 'I travel to Europe for work every month. This SIM will save me hundreds of pounds a year.'
Comparison with Other Networks
Vodafone's offer is competitive with other networks. EE includes roaming in 47 destinations, while O2 offers roaming in 27. Three offers 'Go Roam' in 71 destinations, but with fair use limits. Vodafone's unlimited roaming has no fair use cap, making it a strong option for heavy data users.
However, customers should note that some destinations require an additional fee. For example, roaming in Australia and New Zealand costs £6 per day.
How to Get the Deal
Interested customers can sign up online or in-store. Vodafone stores across Birmingham, including the Bullring and Fort Kinnaird, are promoting the offer. The deal is available for a limited time, with no end date announced yet.
