Alison Hammond Reveals Why She Turned Down Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Role

Beloved Birmingham television star Alison Hammond has publicly disclosed the reason behind her decision to decline the opportunity to present the iconic BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. The 51-year-old presenter, who rose to fame on Big Brother in 2002, was approached for the highly coveted role following the departure of long-standing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman last year.

Scheduling Conflicts Prevent Major Television Opportunities

In a candid interview with Radio Times, Hammond explained that her packed professional schedule made accepting the Strictly Come Dancing hosting position impossible. "I'm so busy that I'm not sure it [Strictly Come Dancing] is going to happen. It's unrealistic," she revealed. "I'm so happy they considered me but, like Traitors, I can't do it because everything clashes."

The This Morning star also confirmed she won't be appearing in the upcoming celebrity version of The Traitors for the same reason, despite being approached for both high-profile television opportunities.

From Contestant to Potential Host

Hammond has a history with Strictly Come Dancing, having participated as a contestant in 2014 where she reached 10th place alongside professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec. Her successful television career since her Big Brother debut has included hosting roles on The Great British Bake Off and For The Love of Dogs, making her a natural candidate for the Strictly hosting position.

"I would have loved to have done it," Hammond expressed about the Strictly opportunity. "Anybody that gets it, they're going to land the perfect job. But I'm so happy with everything I've got. What would I drop, to do Strictly?"

Speculation Continues for Coveted Television Roles

The search for new Strictly Come Dancing hosts continues, with several other television personalities being mentioned as potential candidates. Names circulating in industry speculation include Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, and Hammond's This Morning colleague Sian Welby.

The hosting vacancies were created when Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced their departure after 21 years with the popular Saturday night show. In their joint announcement, Daly reflected: "After 21 wonderfully joyful years on Strictly, we have decided the time is right to step aside and pass on the baton..." Winkleman added their appreciation for the production team and loyal audience who supported them throughout their tenure.

While Hammond won't be taking on the Strictly hosting duties, her revelation provides insight into the difficult decisions television personalities must make when balancing multiple high-profile opportunities in the competitive entertainment industry.
