A Birmingham-based singer, whose powerful voice has captivated millions on TikTok, is now being hailed as a major emerging talent by the BBC, proving that dreams really can come true.
From Social Media Stardom to National Recognition
Roselyn Mugabe, known professionally as ROZZZQWEEN, has been selected for the prestigious BBC Introducing's Ones to Watch list for 2026. This recognition comes on the heels of her massive online success, where she has amassed a staggering 1.5 million likes on TikTok.
The singer, who draws vocal inspiration from legends like Ray Charles and Billie Holiday, previewed her upcoming single on the platform months ago. Speaking to BirminghamLive about the BBC accolade and her new music, she shared her excitement. "I'm definitely excited because I wrote it so long ago," she said. "Artists have a habit of holding on to music. It's not doing anything sat in your files so I'm excited to release it to the world."
The Meaning Behind 'MLK'
Her new single, titled 'MLK', is set for release on Monday, January 19—Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Rather than a political statement, the song is a personal and empowering anthem. It charts a woman's journey, focusing on universal themes of resilience, self-belief, and hope, inspired by the values in King's iconic "I Have a Dream" speech.
ROZZZQWEEN revealed that a fan's plea influenced the final version. "A fan pleaded with me to keep the acoustic version and I thought that was a bloody good idea, it keeps the song powerful," she explained. For her, the release symbolises a significant personal milestone. "Releasing 'MLK' as the first song of the year, it's showing my own dreams are coming into fruition. It shows dreams can come true. I've got big ones, and for the first time, I can finally say I'm on my way."
The TikTok Formula: Consistency is Key
With her social media success acting as a powerful springboard, the singer offered advice for other aspiring artists. She attributes her TikTok breakthrough to one major factor: consistency.
"It's all about consistency, eventually the algorithm will pick it up," she stated. "It works for me because I'm consistent and I have to drive myself to post daily. TikTok doesn't work for everyone, but as long you're consistent in putting music out there, you will see a result."
The combination of viral online appeal and now formal recognition from a national institution like the BBC marks a pivotal moment in ROZZZQWEEN's career. Her story underscores how modern platforms can launch local talent onto a much larger stage. 'MLK' will be available on all major streaming platforms from January 19.
