Brummie Expat in Spain Shares 'One Thing' He Misses About UK Before Return
Brummie Expat Misses Fish and Chips Before UK Return

A Birmingham expat living in Spain has revealed what he misses most about the UK ahead of his return home. Adrian Moore, 56, who relocated to Alicante in 2003, is set to come back to Birmingham after spending decades abroad with his ex-wife.

The former Sutton Coldfield resident spoke to BirminghamLive about what he longs for from his homeland. "I miss a decent fish and chip shop, so I'm looking forward to that. I miss a Balti, but we've got fantastic Indian restaurants here in Alicante," he said.

However, Moore noted a distinct difference in the quality of chips. "With the chips here, I think the potatoes taste different, and I believe it's because of the climate. They're not too bad, but they can't do proper chips here. It's not quite the same as British fish and chips."

Leaving Spain for personal reasons, Moore did not rule out a return after retirement but is currently focused on life with his new partner. "I've met a lovely lady in Sutton Coldfield, so I needed to come back to Birmingham. When I retire, I might move back to Spain and live somewhere near the beach, but it won't be Alicante," he explained.

Reflecting on his time abroad, Moore said, "I left Birmingham for a healthy lifestyle; I didn't go to relax, and it wasn't a particularly cheap place to live. But when I return to the United Kingdom next month, I will reflect back on the experience fondly as a great time."
