An outdoor cinema, children's play area, activity trail, and picnic seating with food and drink stalls are opening at the NEC Birmingham this weekend. The NEC is launching a programme of free family activities in its new outdoor space, NEC Lakeside, this summer alongside its ticketed experiences, including Peppa Pig Space Adventure and the Gladiators Experience.
New Family-Friendly Space
Located at the centre of the NEC Campus, NEC Lakeside has been created to give families a place to relax and spend time together. It can accompany visits to the venue's attractions over the summer months or serve as a free day out during the school holidays.
Sarah Harvey, deputy chief executive officer at the NEC, said: "This summer represents an exciting step in how we're continuing to evolve the NEC experience. We are bringing together an incredible range of attractions for families and, as part of our NEC Built for your Summer programme, creating even more reasons to visit across the season. With the addition of NEC Lakeside, we're also able to offer a free space where people can spend time together and make the most of their visit."
Summer Programme Highlights
The new outdoor space accompanies a huge spring and summer programme at the NEC with family experiences, including Peppa Pig Space Adventure, iFLY, Gladiators Experience, Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition, Titanic Exhibition, and more. NEC Lakeside will open on Saturday, May 9, and run until the end of August.
