David Haye has disclosed the daily payment received by celebrities on I'm A Celebrity South Africa. The former boxer, who was an early exit from the show, revealed that campmates were earning between £20,000 and £25,000 per day for their participation.
David Haye Defends Comments About Pay
Haye's revelation comes after he faced backlash for calling out soap star Adam Thomas for complaining in camp. Haye had previously stated that the celebrities were being "paid handsomely" for the show, which he felt made complaints unjustified. In a new interview, he put a figure on that compensation, saying, "It's probably £20,000-25,000 per day for being in that jungle."
Haye was in the jungle for 11 days, meaning his total earnings would range from £220,000 to £275,000. He expressed no regrets about his time on the show, despite the controversy.
ITV Increased Trial Difficulty
According to Haye, ITV ramped up the challenges this year, making the trials tougher and more demanding. He noted that the questions, particularly those about trivial topics like Adele songs, were especially challenging. "Any trial that requires me knowing any sort of trivial Adele song, spinning me round and round in a machine, asking me about Adele songs, I couldn't think of one now," he said.
Unequal Pay Among Celebrities
While Haye's estimate provides a general figure, it is known that celebrities on I'm A Celeb are paid varying rates. Reports prior to the show indicated that former footballer Jimmy Bullard was "furious" upon learning that Harry Redknapp was earning more than him for the same show. Therefore, some campmates may have received less or more than the amount Haye mentioned.
The disclosure adds a new dimension to the ongoing feud between Haye and Adam Thomas, who revealed he is now in therapy due to their altercations on the show. Haye defended his actions by highlighting the substantial pay, contrasting it with his own experiences fighting for little money.
