Married at First Sight Australia star Bec Zacharia has responded to a bridal rental business after they publicly accused her of misrepresenting her wardrobe expenses. The controversy erupted when Bec revealed in a street interview during Australian Fashion Week that she spent roughly $20,000 on her MAFS wardrobe because the show does not provide a clothing budget. She explained that while many cast members hire clothes, she wanted items that matched her personal aesthetic and made her feel confident.
Bridal Business Responds
Bridal rental company RESRVD disputed Bec's claims, stating that they had dressed her for the Final Vows ceremony in exchange for exposure. Founder Savannah shared a screenshot of Bec's message requesting a dress, which she agreed to in hopes of promoting her small business. However, Bec only posted and tagged the dress on her private Instagram account, which had 11,000 followers at the time, rather than her main public account.
Bec's Apology
Taking to Instagram, Bec posted a photo of herself in the rental dress and wrote a lengthy caption addressing the situation. She said: "In the wake of finding out Savannah from @resrvdhire who leant me my Final Vows dress was upset that she wasn’t tagged on this account, I just want to say publicly how incredibly grateful I am to have worn this dress on such a significant day in my life."
She continued: "There was never any intention to overlook or disrespect Savannah & @resrvdhire and I sincerely apologise that it came across that way. In the chaos and emotion surrounding that time, I simply didn’t handle it perfectly." Bec concluded by thanking them for lending her a dress during a "vulnerable moment" and making her feel beautiful.
Fellow Bride Weighs In
Fellow MAFS bride Gia Fleur also commented on the situation. On RESRVD's video, she wrote: "I’m so sorry, this isn’t ok! I would be honoured to wear and post your dresses." Gia later made her own video highlighting RESRVD and other small businesses that supported the cast. She said: "I did see a little video of somebody lying, saying that they were buying $20,000 worth of dresses. I've got to call b------t on that, because that person in particular I know hired these dresses."
She added: "These people essentially put their work on the line to provide free services for us in exchange for content. I think they deserve the recognition."
The drama continues to unfold as fans and fellow cast members react to the conflicting accounts.
