Scratchy Beard Brings Folk Magic to Bulkington Community Centre This Saturday

The vibrant and harmony-rich sounds of Scratchy Beard will fill the Bulkington Community & Conference Centre this Saturday, March 21, offering a live musical experience that conjures folk music for the heavy-footed and open-hearted. This talented ensemble creates a unique blend where earthy guitars and sweet harmonies merge seamlessly with stomping beats that are sure to spark restless feet among the audience.

A Musical Journey of Travel and Triumph

Scratchy Beard's songs artfully drift between moments of introspection and celebration, telling compelling tales of travel, trouble, and triumph with a storyteller's heart and a wanderer's soul. The performance features the lilt of the fiddle entwined with the clarinet's gentle call, weaving through each composition like a quiet, intimate conversation. Meanwhile, that distinctive folky groove thrums consistently like a steady heartbeat throughout the set.

The music carries distinct echoes of Celtic melodies, European musical hues, and weathered blues traditions, all wrapped beautifully in rich harmonies that bring this distinctive sound vividly to life. Over time, Scratchy Beard has evolved into a close-knit ensemble whose live shows consistently hum with genuine connection, distinctive character, and undeniable charm that captivates audiences.

About Bulkington Village Centre

Bulkington Village Centre (BVC) operates as a charitable company originally established in 1996 to take over a former school located in the centre of Bulkington and develop it into a multi-activity community and conferencing centre. This unique community project received initial funding largely from the National Lottery and has since grown into a financially self-supporting centre where all profits are reinvested for the benefit of all users.

The centre maintains a comprehensive events and entertainment programme while hosting more than 70 regular community activity groups. It successfully brings together a valuable blend of statutory and community services on one convenient site, including a doctor's surgery, NHS clinic, nursery, and pre-school facilities.

BVC provides versatile rooms available for hire for conference and training purposes alongside social, educational, and cultural events. The centre offers an excellent range of facilities designed to attract both community and business users, with seven different rooms suitable for events ranging from board meetings and seminars to keep-fit classes, arts and crafts sessions, and large events accommodating up to 200 people.

With facilities set within a friendly and comfortable environment, room hire rates remain very competitive throughout the year. BVC consistently offers concessions to charities and community groups while providing essential support to new groups until they become self-sustaining entities within the community.
