A stunning new Peaky Blinders mural has been officially unveiled on Hill Street, located directly next to the bustling Birmingham New Street station. This impressive 50-meter installation was created by Birmingham-born artist Jon Jones to commemorate the recent release of the Netflix film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Celebrating Birmingham's Iconic Story
The artwork vividly depicts scenes from the new film, featuring the legendary character Tommy Shelby alongside other memorable moments and personalities from the acclaimed television series. Jon Jones expressed his pride in the project, stating, "Updating this mural for such an important moment in the Peaky Blinders story is a real honour. As a proud Brummie, it means a great deal to see the work evolve in the city and continue to connect with people passing through every day."
Collaborative Effort and Historical Context
The mural draws inspiration from Birmingham's rich 19th-century criminal underworld, adding a layer of historical depth to the contemporary art piece. This update was delivered through a partnership involving Central BID Birmingham and Network Rail, building on previous installations that celebrated the city's global connections.
Steve Hewett, Central BID Manager, highlighted the mural's ongoing significance, noting, "We proudly installed images on the Peaky Blinders wall on Hill Street in 2022 prior to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, to celebrate the positive global impact Peaky Blinders has had for the city across the world."
