Residents across the Fylde borough are embarking on a transformative journey of personal and professional development, thanks to the innovative and fully funded Multiply programme. This collaborative initiative, delivered by Fylde Council in partnership with Blackpool & The Fylde College, is empowering local people by providing accessible, practical learning opportunities right in the heart of their communities.
A Proven Track Record of Success
The programme has already demonstrated significant impact in a short period. Between October and December 2025, an impressive thirty-three residents successfully completed courses specifically designed to enhance their everyday numeracy skills. Perhaps even more encouraging is the fact that ten of these participants have already progressed onto further qualifications, expanding their studies into maths, English, and essential digital skills.
Real Stories of Personal Triumph
The true value of the Multiply programme is best illustrated through the experiences of the learners themselves. Take Derek, for example, who used the course to overcome significant challenges with modern technology. Starting from a point of basic mobile phone use, he has now built the confidence to pursue a formal Digital Functional Skills Qualification.
Other inspiring success stories include Agata, who conquered a long-held fear of computers, and Iveta, who successfully expanded her knowledge of ICT terminology and theory. These individual journeys highlight the programme's ability to cater to diverse starting points and personal goals.
Official Endorsement and Future Vision
Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council, expressed her profound satisfaction with the programme's outcomes. "It is incredibly rewarding to witness residents developing skills that have a genuine, positive impact on their daily lives," she stated. "These success stories powerfully demonstrate that it is never too late for anyone in our community to learn something new and valuable."
Simon Hughes of Blackpool & The Fylde College emphasised the broader social value of the initiative. He noted that by delivering learning in supportive, familiar community settings, the programme breaks down traditional barriers to education. "This targeted provision is specifically designed to help people from all backgrounds and ability levels grow in confidence and take positive steps forward in their lives," Hughes added.
