Bristol College Ends Education Partnership in 2025
Bristol College ends education provider contract

City of Bristol College has announced it will conclude its long-standing educational partnership with local provider Hartcliffe and Withywood Ventures (HWV) next summer.

Partnership Conclusion Details

The higher education institution confirmed on Monday, November 10, 2025, that its subcontracting arrangement with the not-for-profit organisation will formally end in July 2026. Both organisations emphasised their separation is occurring on positive terms through a jointly released statement.

The organisations described parting "on excellent terms and with mutual respect", noting the decision reflects "evolving strategic priorities" for both parties. They highlighted their successful collaboration in delivering education that has "positively impacted students and the wider community".

Educational Impact and Community Role

Under the partnership, HWV has delivered the A2A study programme for 16-18 year olds from its dedicated facility, the Gatehouse Centre in Hartcliffe. The programme has included English and maths GCSE subjects among its offerings.

The Gatehouse Centre, which HWV moved into in 1995, will continue serving as what the organisations describe as "an anchor institution in the local community". The site also houses the University of Bristol's micro-campus, which opened in February 2025.

Future Directions and Continued Commitment

City of Bristol College reaffirmed its "steadfast commitment" to serving diverse communities across Bristol and the South West region. The college stated it continues to ensure its educational offerings remain "of the highest standard, are inclusive and accessible to everyone".

For Hartcliffe and Withywood Ventures, established in 1985 to increase opportunities for Bristol residents, the transition will enable the organisation to "be creative and responsive to the needs of the community" while maintaining collaboration with the college and other partners.

Both organisations confirmed their ongoing focus will remain on high quality education, community support, inclusivity and social cohesion despite the conclusion of their formal partnership.
