Three secondary schools have been named the 'worst' in Birmingham in new league tables published by The Telegraph. Around 3,500 schools across the country were rated based on key factors including exam performance, attendance rates and class sizes, creating a national ranking from best to worst.
Lowest scoring schools in Birmingham
Each school was awarded an overall score out of 40. Three Birmingham schools scored just 12 out of 40, the lowest in the city: Bournville School, Star King Solomon Academy and Waverley Studio College. E-ACT Shenley Academy scored 13, only one point better. These schools were labelled 'well below average' in the Telegraph league table.
Other poorer performing Birmingham schools included Ark Kings Academy, Fortis Academy, King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy, Lift Greenwood and Smith's Wood Academy, all scoring 14 out of 40.
Improvement on the horizon for Star King Solomon
Despite the low ranking, Star King Solomon Academy was recently told it is making improvements following an Ofsted visit, suggesting brighter times lie ahead.
Top performing schools
At the other end of the scale, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys was crowned Birmingham's best with a near-perfect score of 39 out of 40. Its sister school, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, also posted an impressive score of 38.
