The United Kingdom is preparing for another surge of intense heat, with weather maps turning red as temperatures are predicted to climb above 30 degrees Celsius. According to forecasts from Netweather, a significant portion of the country will experience warm conditions on Tuesday, 23 June, following a period of unsettled weather with cold spells and rainfall.
Met Office Long-Range Forecast
The Met Office's outlook for the period between 15 June and 24 June indicates that fine and dry weather will dominate much of the UK initially, with long spells of sunshine for most areas. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, with parts of the south potentially becoming very warm. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms, particularly in the southwest.
As the week progresses, a more unsettled spell is likely, with outbreaks of rain affecting the north and northwest, which could spread to the south and southeast at times. However, after this, high pressure is expected to become more dominant, leading to widely dry and settled conditions, and very warm weather for many.
Counties Expected to Exceed 30C
The following counties are forecast to see temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius:
- London
- East Sussex
- West Sussex
- Hertfordshire
- Essex
- Norfolk
- Suffolk
London is expected to reach a maximum of 33C, continuing a trend of record-breaking temperatures witnessed across the UK in May.
Regional Temperature Breakdown
Further north, temperatures will be slightly lower but still pleasant. Greater Manchester and Cheshire are predicted to see highs of around 27 to 28 degrees Celsius. The Midlands will also enjoy warm conditions, with temperatures up to 27C.
Scotland and the South West will experience the most moderate conditions, though both areas are still anticipated to exceed 20C on Tuesday.
The balmy period comes after record-breaking temperatures were recorded throughout the UK in May. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions during the heatwave.
