EDF Energy Offers Four Free Sundays of Electricity in January Challenge
EDF Offers Free Electricity on Sundays in January

EDF Energy has made a significant announcement for its customers, positioning itself as the sole energy supplier to offer a unique money-saving opportunity this winter. The firm is extending its popular 'Sunday Saver' challenge into January, providing households with the chance to earn free electricity for use on four separate Sundays.

How the Sunday Saver Challenge Works

The initiative is designed to help customers lower their energy bills after the expensive festive period. EDF is the only major supplier currently offering four Sundays worth of free electricity over the coming month. The scheme rewards participants who shift their electricity usage away from peak weekday hours, specifically between 4pm and 7pm.

Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, stated: "January is a time when many people look for new ways to save after the festive period, so we’re delighted to resume our Sunday Saver challenge. Over 210,000 customers have been rewarded with free electricity as a result of adjusting their daily usage habits."

Key Dates and Eligibility Requirements

Registration for the challenge is now open and will close at 11:59pm on Sunday, 4th January. The challenge itself begins on Monday, 5th January. The Sundays where customers can use their earned free electricity are:

  • 18th January
  • 25th January
  • 1st February
  • 8th February

To be eligible, customers must have a working electricity smart meter and be opted into half-hourly meter reads. Participants can earn between four and 16 hours of free power each Sunday, depending on how much electricity they shift from peak times.

Tracking Progress and Environmental Benefits

Customers can monitor their progress through the Energy Hub via their MyAccount portal, which provides a personalised view of household energy use. EDF highlights that the scheme not only saves money but also helps reduce carbon footprints and contributes to a more sustainable electricity grid by easing demand during peak periods.

EDF, which competes with rivals like Octopus Energy, EON Next, Ovo, British Gas, and Scottish Power, encourages interested customers to find full details and sign up for the challenge via the EDF website or their MyAccount.
