Lincolnshire Hospitals Join Too Good To Go App to Cut Waste

Lincolnshire hospitals have partnered with the 'Too Good To Go' app to cut food waste and support sustainability. The catering teams across Lincoln, Grantham, and Boston hospitals provide thousands of meals daily for patients, visitors, and staff. Often, perfectly good leftover food would be discarded, contributing to overall waste.

How the Scheme Works

To reduce waste, Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, and Grantham and District Hospital have joined 'Too Good To Go', an app allowing users to purchase discounted surprise bags of surplus food from local eateries. Across these hospitals, the bags are priced at £3.99 and contain items worth £12, offering significant savings.

What's in the Surprise Bags?

Matthew Charlton, Head of Catering at Lincolnshire Community Hospitals and NHS Group, said: "It's brilliant that we can offer these surprise bags and help reduce our waste. The bags will be available for anyone using the app and will include items such as sandwiches, cakes, and pastries that were not sold during the day."

Supporting Sustainability Goals

Mike Parkhill, Group Chief Estates and Facilities Officer, added: "We are pleased to offer these bags at a fantastic discounted price. This is a simple but effective way to reduce food waste across our sites while offering real value to local communities. Initiatives like this support our sustainability ambitions and the NHS Green Plan."

How to Get Involved

To use the service, download the 'Too Good To Go' app on a smartphone and create an account. Then, you can purchase a surprise bag from participating hospitals and collect it during designated times.
