Music mogul and X Factor judge Simon Cowell has revealed the rather unconventional wellness routine that has transformed his health following a serious accident in 2020. The 66-year-old entertainment tycoon has adopted a regimen that includes biannual blood detox treatments, significant dietary changes, and a rigorous fitness programme.
A Life-Changing Accident
Cowell's health journey began after he sustained severe injuries in an e-bike accident in California. The incident served as a wake-up call for the television personality, who realised during his recovery from spinal surgery that he was significantly unfit despite previously thinking he was in good shape.
The Recovery Process
Speaking candidly to The Times newspaper, Cowell described the challenging recovery period. "After three or four months, starting to walk again, I had to get up to 20,000 steps. It was hard. I'd come back and my feet would be covered in blood," he revealed. This difficult experience motivated him to completely overhaul his lifestyle.
The Unconventional Wellness Approach
Cowell's current wellness regime includes what he describes as "a bit wacky" treatments that he's fully embraced. "Your blood being rinsed of all the toxins and coming back cleaner, I think it's a good idea," he explained about his biannual blood detox sessions at a wellness clinic.
Comprehensive Health Assessments
The music industry veteran undergoes thorough evaluations at his chosen wellness facility, where practitioners "tell you your age" based on various tests. Cowell proudly stated that through better eating habits, increased exercise, reduced stress, and specific supplements, he has "actually aged backwards." He emphasised that "My brain is still there, I still have the energy" despite approaching his late sixties.
Diet and Exercise Transformation
By completely altering his diet and implementing a consistent exercise regime, Cowell has managed to lose approximately four stone. He acknowledges that the accident, while traumatic, ultimately proved beneficial for his long-term health. "It wasn't great, but maybe it was meant to happen," he reflected, adding that before the incident, "I was unfit. Every day I was getting up and sitting on the telephone for about ten hours. So even though I was working out, doing push-ups, I wasn't really fit."
The One Remaining Vice
Despite his comprehensive health transformation, Cowell admits to maintaining one unhealthy habit - vaping. He explained that this helps him avoid returning to cigarette smoking, a previous addiction where he consumed "nearly two packs a day, for a very long time." He occasionally indulges in "four puffs [of a cigarette every two weeks], just because I fancy it," but considers vaping the lesser evil that successfully weaned him off regular smoking.
Future Health Considerations
Cowell has previously expressed interest in experimental anti-ageing treatments, even considering cryogenic preservation at one point. He revealed, "I actually was going to freeze myself. I thought, 'Why not?' Then I found out they chop your head off, so you come back in two thousand years as a floating head. I'm like, 'No, I don't want that'."
The entertainment figure remains committed to his unusual wellness practices, viewing them as essential components of his ongoing health maintenance and anti-ageing strategy following his life-altering accident and recovery journey.
