Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell has shared an emotional and positive health update concerning her father, Mark, and his ongoing battle with cancer.
A Long-Awaited Positive Update
The dancer, 36, received what she described as 'great news' after her father underwent a keyhole surgery procedure. This development comes after a difficult period that saw Dianne break down in tears on the BBC show back in October 2023 following her father's initial diagnosis.
Mark Buswell had previously finished his chemotherapy treatment in April 2024, but this recent surgery was scheduled to thoroughly check his body for any remaining signs of the disease.
The Procedure and The 'Great News'
Dianne detailed the events on her 'Winning Isn't Everything' podcast with her former Strictly partner, Chris McCausland. She explained that the keyhole surgery allowed doctors to insert a camera and meticulously examine behind his organs and in his stomach for any 'cancer margins'.
The most significant positive outcome was that surgeons found no signs of cancer. Furthermore, they took the decisive step of removing the medical port that had been implanted under his skin, near his collarbone. This port had been used to administer his chemotherapy for over two years.
'They don't think he's going to need it again,' Dianne revealed, highlighting the procedure's success as a major milestone in his recovery.
An Emotional Phone Call
Dianne described the moment she received the news in an early morning phone call from her father, which initially caused her to panic. 'I was like this is either going to be good news or bad news,' she shared.
Her fears were quickly allayed as her dad, still under the influence of anaesthetic, delivered the positive results in a hilariously fast-paced and cheerful manner. 'He was telling all the doctors he can give them a lift home tomorrow, all the nurses know his life story, they know all about me,' Dianne recounted with joy.
This happy news comes as Dianne, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Joe Sugg, prepares to return to her family in Australia shortly before Christmas, once the current series of Strictly Come Dancing concludes.
