New Monthly Parkinson's Café to Open in Basingstoke for Support and Social Connection
A new monthly café designed for individuals living with Parkinson's disease and their loved ones is set to launch in Basingstoke next month. This initiative aims to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for those affected by the condition to connect and share experiences.
Event Details and Accessibility
The Parkinson's café will commence on Wednesday, May 13, and will be held regularly on the second Wednesday of each month. Sessions will run from 2pm to 3.30pm at the Lychpit Community Hall, located at Great Binfields Road, RG24 8TF. Attendance is completely free and open to anyone who has received a Parkinson's diagnosis, as well as their families and friends, offering an opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea and engage in supportive conversations.
Community Impact and Statements
Leigh-Beth Stroud, the area development manager for the South East at Parkinson's UK, expressed enthusiasm about the launch. "We're so pleased to be launching this new café in Basingstoke, creating a welcoming and supportive space for people affected by Parkinson's to connect with others who understand what they're going through," she said. "Living with Parkinson's can sometimes feel isolating, so having a regular place to meet for a chat over a cuppa can make a real difference to people and their families. We'd encourage anyone affected to come along and be part of this friendly community."
Background on Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's is a complex and progressive brain condition that deteriorates over time. It manifests with over 40 symptoms, including tremors, pain, and anxiety, and currently has no cure. In the UK, a new diagnosis occurs every 20 minutes, and global projections indicate that by 2050, the number of people living with Parkinson's will double to 25 million worldwide.
