A care home in Bromsgrove is set to host a heartwarming festive event with a nostalgic twist, opening its doors to the wider community.
A Step Back in Time for Christmas
Chandler Court care home on Recreation Road will welcome local people for a special 'Step into Christmas' reminiscence party. The event will take place on Wednesday 17th December from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
This initiative is part of a national programme by Care UK, designed to rekindle and share the Christmas customs that older residents remember from their youth. The home will be transformed into a 1950s-inspired Christmas tea party, complete with traditional decorations to set the scene.
Festive Tales and Shared Traditions
The afternoon's entertainment will be led by author, storyteller and performer Cat Weatherill. She will guide guests through an hour of festive tales and a lively communal singalong, bringing Christmases past vividly to life.
Residents have shared their own cherished memories. Doreen Dyer recalled: "I used to put a tangerine in the children's pillowcases on Christmas Eve, and it's something we still talk about each year." Sheila Oliver added: "All the family would come together at Christmas, and I used to make my own crackers for the table – it became a cherished family tradition."
Uniting the Community
Rebecca Pearce, Customer Relations Manager at Chandler Court, explained the event's significance. "Christmas is such a special time of year and this allows us to honour memories from residents' childhoods," she said. "This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten."
The home is actively encouraging people from across Bromsgrove to attend and help celebrate the season. For more details on the 'Step into Christmas' initiative, visit careuk.com/step-into-christmas.
