Solihull Family Home Could Become Children's Care Home
Plan to Turn Solihull House into Children's Care Home

A proposal has been submitted to Solihull Council to convert a residential family home in Buryfield Road into a care home for three children. The application, submitted by Mr Khalid and handled by planning agents C14 Designs, seeks a change of use for the property.

The care home would accommodate up to three children aged between five and 17 years old. According to the planning statement, staffing would include three care staff on shift at any one time, operating on a 48-hour rota. A visiting manager would attend during daytime hours for operational oversight, resulting in a maximum daytime adult presence of four staff, including the manager. Night-time staffing would consist of three care staff.

The applicant is partnering with Hope Heaven, a care home operator described by the agents as having extensive experience. Inside, the ground floor would feature shared living and amenity spaces, including a games room, lounge, WC, kitchen, dining room, and utility/storage area. The first floor would provide three bedrooms for the resident children, plus a fourth and fifth bedroom for staff accommodation, allowing two staff members to rest while one remains on waking night duty, along with a bathroom.

The statement argues that the use would remain residential in character and operate consistently with a family dwelling, without adversely affecting the residential character of the area. Although the proposal would result in the loss of a family dwelling, the public benefits are considered to outweigh this. The proposal is also said to have no unacceptable impact on highway safety, visual amenity, or residential amenity.

Neighbours have the opportunity to comment during a consultation that closes on May 25. The plans can be viewed and comments submitted via Solihull Council's planning portal using application reference PL/2026/00714/PPFL.
