George's Windmills Donates Sensory Trolleys to Essex Hospitals
Sensory Trolleys Donated to Essex Hospitals by Charity

Family and friends of Benfleet-based charity George's Windmills have delivered three sensory bubble trolleys to hospitals across Essex after donating £14,490. The charity is named in memory of George Hatfield, who died at just two years old in his parents' arms after developing a rare and aggressive cancer following a liver transplant.

Donation Brings Comfort to Children

George's mother, Hayley, said: "Our son's memory now lives on through George's Windmills, a charity dedicated to bringing joy, comfort and smiles to poorly children and their families across Essex. Each sensory trolley we've donated to Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospital's children's wards is designed to provide a calming, engaging experience through lights, bubbles and interactive sensory resources. They help children feel more relaxed, soothed and distracted during uncomfortable moments in hospital."

Hayley and George's Windmills trustee, Rebecca, were welcomed by the Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity team and members of Basildon's children's ward, who remembered George and his family fondly. George's father, Anthony, and older brother Thomas visited the teams at Southend, while his grandparents, Allan and Linda, met with the Broomfield team.

Lisa Kawa-Akenbo, lead health play specialist for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, added: "George was a truly lovely child, and it's a privilege to see his legacy live on in this way. We are so thankful for the donation of these three sensory stations to our hospitals."
