A significant emergency services operation was launched at a Midlands park this afternoon after reports that a woman had entered a lake. The incident occurred at Hanley Park, Stoke-on-Trent, around 1pm on Friday, May 29.
Concerned members of the public raised the alarm after witnessing the woman enter the water. Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics were quickly dispatched to the scene, according to StokeonTrentLive.
The woman was safely rescued from the lake without any further complications. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police confirmed that she was subsequently detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
The spokesperson added: "We were called to Hanley Park following reports that a woman had entered the lake. Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service. A woman was rescued from the lake and detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act."
The quick response from all emergency services ensured the woman's safety, and no injuries were reported. The park remained open during the incident, although some areas were cordoned off temporarily.
