A popular fold-out crib is being withdrawn from sale in the UK over a deadly suffocation risk. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a safety report warning that the product presents a serious risk of injury and suffocation.
Product Details and Warning
The New Mummy Crib Backpack is a backpack that folds out into a baby travel cot with multiple compartments. The OPSS alert states that the crib has been withdrawn from the UK market because it is not structurally stable and lacks warnings that it cannot be used overnight.
The report highlights that a baby's natural movements could cause the crib to collapse or tilt sideways if left in it overnight, leading to serious injuries. Additionally, the crib comes with a cover that would fully enclose the baby, potentially causing suffocation.
Sales Platforms Affected
The product was sold via Amazon, eBay, Fruugo, Joom, and DH Gate. The OPSS has taken corrective action by rejecting the import at the border and destroying it.
