British Gas, a major energy supplier serving customers in Birmingham and across the UK, has announced an expansion of its Warm & Working scheme. The initiative will provide free boiler services and home upgrades to approximately one thousand households, targeting those who are financially vulnerable or at risk of fuel poverty.
What the Scheme Offers
Under the expanded program, British Gas will send experts to eligible homes to conduct tailored upgrades. These include boiler servicing, heating system improvements, smart thermostat installations, radiator upgrades, and essential safety checks such as carbon monoxide detector installations. Regular servicing helps keep heating systems running efficiently, and upgrading to an A-rated boiler could save households up to £180 annually on heating bills.
Statement from British Gas Management
Gary Booker, Managing Director at British Gas, stated: “By expanding our Warm & Working scheme, we will support more people with practical improvements to make their homes more efficient. We want to give households peace of mind and help them avoid unexpected breakdowns when they need their heating the most.” He added, “We know many households are very concerned about their energy costs, and we want to do everything we can to help.”
Eligibility and Contact
The scheme is part of a broader effort by British Gas to assist those struggling with energy costs. Booker noted that additional support is available through the British Gas Energy Trust, which offers grants and advice. Importantly, eligibility for help does not require being a British Gas customer. British Gas will directly contact individuals who qualify for the Warm & Working scheme.
