The family of a Solihull man who died by suicide days after his 38th birthday have spoken of their devastation, describing the tragedy as something 'no-one was prepared for'.
Jake Libby, from Solihull, took his own life on April 25, shortly after celebrating his birthday. His sudden death has left his loved ones heartbroken, with his sister Mollie Jordan revealing that the family did not 'expect it in the slightest'.
A Sister's Tribute
Mollie Jordan, 30, described her brother as 'creative', 'lovely', and someone who 'never once complained'. She has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover funeral costs, aiming to give Jake the send-off he deserves.
'We want to show him one last time how loved he was,' Mollie said. 'He didn't realise how loved he really was.'
Shock and Awareness
Mollie emphasised that Jake had no history of medical issues or depression. 'When he took his own life days after his birthday, he was the best he had ever been in this last year. None of us expected it in the slightest,' she said. 'This shows you need to check in on people - even if they're not showing any signs.'
She added: 'We want to spread awareness of suicide so that if someone is feeling the same way Jake did, they can reach out for help.'
Fundraising Goal
The family hopes to raise £5,500 to cover funeral expenses. Any remaining funds will go towards a memorial for Jake and a donation to a suicide charity. 'Jakey was such a lovely and creative person. One that we all miss dearly,' Mollie said. 'Me, alongside my brothers Ben and Adam, and the rest of our family and friends, are absolutely devastated and heartbroken.'
Jake's funeral will take place at Woodlands Crematorium in Coleshill on June 15 at 11am, followed by a wake at The Bulls Head in Barston.
