State pensioners with unwell partners can get an extra £48.15 a week from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Pension Credit has two parts: Guarantee Pension Credit and Savings Pension Credit.
Guarantee Pension Credit
Guarantee Pension Credit can top up your weekly income to £238 if you are single or £363.25 if you have a joint income with a partner (2026/27).
Savings Pension Credit
Savings Pension Credit is an extra amount awarded to those who have reached retirement with modest savings. For single people, you could receive a top-up of up to £17.96 per week, or £20.10 per week for couples (2026-27).
Additional Amounts for Carers
As a carer, if you care for an unwell spouse or family member, you may qualify for an additional amount of £48.15. If you are severely disabled or have certain other outgoings or responsibilities, you may be able to claim more.
The DWP stated: “You could get an extra £48.15 a week if you get Carer’s Allowance, or you get Carer Support Payment, or you have claimed Carer’s Allowance but are not being paid because you already receive another benefit paying a higher amount.”
It added: “If you and your partner have both claimed or are getting Carer’s Allowance, you can both get this extra amount.”
Extra Amounts for Children
The DWP also noted: “You could get an extra amount for each child or young person you are responsible for who lives with you. You will get £69.98 a week for each child or young person. This is increased to £81.07 a week for the first child if they were born before 6 April 2017.”
You will receive the extra amount until 31 August after their 16th birthday, or 19th birthday if they are in eligible education or training—for example, studying for GCSEs, A levels, BTECs, Scottish Highers, or SVQs/NVQs up to level 3. The education must be for more than 12 hours a week on average.
