A Birmingham hospital is celebrating a remarkable double achievement, having secured two prestigious Gold awards that highlight its unwavering commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence.
A Prestigious Double Honour
Practice Plus Group Hospital, Birmingham has been honoured with both the NJR Data Quality Gold Level and the Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) Gold Award in quick succession. These accolades, announced in November 2025, recognise the hospital's exceptional standards in infection prevention and the accuracy of its joint replacement data.
Excellence in Data and Patient Outcomes
The NJR Data Quality Gold Level is a testament to the hospital's dedication to meticulous record-keeping. As a specialist in orthopaedic surgery, the facility completes a high volume of hip and knee replacements each year for both NHS and private patients. This award confirms its successful completion of a rigorous audit, demonstrating ‘best practice’ in ensuring complete and high-quality data for every joint replacement procedure.
Mr Tim Wilton, Medical Director of the National Joint Registry, congratulated the team, stating: "The Quality Data Provider Award received by the team at this hospital demonstrates the high standards that are being met in ensuring compliance with the registry and reflects the strong departmental efforts to achieve such status." He added that this data is crucial for improving patient care and informing regulators like the Care Quality Commission.
Leading the Way in Infection Prevention
Simultaneously, the hospital achieved the ANTT Gold Award, the highest level of accreditation for aseptic procedures. This award recognises the consistent application of safe and effective techniques across all clinical areas, significantly reducing infection risk and creating the safest possible environment for patients undergoing treatment.
Samantha Doubleday, Hospital Director at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Birmingham, said: "These accolades are a testament to our incredible team for their dedication and expertise in orthopaedic procedures. At our hospital, patient safety is always our top priority, and these awards reflect our commitment to providing exceptional care for every patient."
What This Means for Patients
Located in Edgbaston, the hospital specialises in hip and knee replacements, ophthalmology, endoscopy, diagnostics, and general surgery. Having only opened its theatres this year, it currently boasts very low NHS waiting lists. NHS patients in England can ask their GP for a referral.
For private patients, the hospital offers its Wellsoon service, which provides fast access to surgery. Patients can typically undergo an operation within 4-6 weeks of an initial consultation, which costs £95 and includes x-rays and blood tests.
