Darlington Move-a-thon raises £1000 for Mind

Community Unites for Mental Health in Dynamic Darlington Fundraiser

A powerful partnership between a professional mental health charity and a local gym recently brought the Darlington community together in a vibrant celebration of wellbeing. Darlington Mind joined forces with Physique Health Club to host the 'Move for Your Mind-a-thon,' a special event marking World Mental Health Day.

The community event successfully attracted participants of all ages, who came together for a day focused on movement, fun, and raising crucial awareness about mental health.

A Resounding Success: Funds and Community Spirit Soar

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of local residents, the event was a significant financial triumph. The Move-a-thon raised an impressive total of over £1,000, with every single penny going directly to support Darlington Mind's vital work in the local area.

Jemma Gregory, Marketing and Development Officer for Darlington Mind, expressed her delight at the outcome. "We're absolutely delighted with the turnout and the funds raised," she said. "It shows how much our community cares about mental wellbeing here in Darlington and the surrounding area."

She extended a huge thank you to Physique Health Club for their incredible support, energy, and generosity in hosting the event, emphasising that it would not have been possible without them.

Fitness and Fun: A Day of Activities for All

The event was designed to be inclusive and engaging, offering a wide range of activities that encouraged participation from everyone. The day's schedule featured:

  • Donation-based fitness classes suitable for various abilities.
  • Inflatable games provided by Splash and Bounce, adding a element of playful fun.
  • A sweet treat station courtesy of Andy’s Candy Bar.
  • Prize-winning games and activities organised by the team at Darlington Mind.

Deith Bridges, Manager of Physique Health Club on Banks Road, highlighted the core belief that drove their involvement. "We believe strongly that physical activity and mental wellbeing go hand in hand," Bridges stated. "Supporting Darlington Mind and seeing so many people move, smile, and come together has been hugely gratifying."

Due to the event's overwhelming success, there are already plans to establish it as a key date in the local calendar. The club hopes to make the Move for Your Mind-a-thon an annual event, aiming to grow its impact and bring even more people together each year.

Looking forward, Darlington Mind is preparing for its next major community gathering: the Mental Elf Festive Fun Run on November 30 at South Park. Demonstrating their ongoing commitment, Physique Health Club will once again show their support by leading a festive warm-up before the run begins.
