Residents across Cardiff are being called upon to lace up their trainers and embrace a month of movement this February. The initiative, known as Jog 28, is a free, month-long challenge designed to enhance physical health, improve mental wellbeing, and raise crucial funds for mental health support.
What is the Jog 28 Challenge?
The concept is simple but powerful: participants aim to complete 28 miles over the 28 days of February. The challenge is deliberately inclusive, welcoming people of all ages and fitness levels. You can choose to jog, walk, or run the distance entirely at your own pace, making it a highly accessible way to stay active. The event runs from February 1 to February 28, 2026, and registration is free and open now.
Fiona Halton, Head of Public and High Value Fundraising at the Mental Health Foundation, emphasised the timing of the challenge. "Whether you want to keep up the momentum of a great start to 2026, or are just looking for a boost after January, Jog 28 is for you," she said. "It's a fundraiser that supports not just your own health, but the vital work of our charity."
Connection and Wellbeing at the Heart of the Event
The organisers stress that Jog 28 is about more than just logging miles. It’s an opportunity to connect with your surroundings, your community, and your own mental state. "We are inviting the people of Cardiff to turn up for themselves," Halton explained. "By moving and taking care of your physical health, you will in turn boost your mental wellbeing."
She also highlighted the social benefits, noting that shared activities are easier and more beneficial. "Connection is key for good mental health. Jog 28 is a perfect chance to step out with a friend, have a natter, and improve your wellbeing together. Just remember, it's harder to talk past a jogging pace, so keep it steady!"
How to Get Involved and What You Can Win
Signing up is straightforward and comes with incentives. There is no registration fee, and participants can join at any time via the official website. Everyone who registers will receive a free Mental Health Foundation T-shirt, while stocks last. Furthermore, anyone who manages to raise at least £30 in sponsorship will be rewarded with a free beanie hat.
The fundraising target is flexible—participants are encouraged to raise whatever they can, as every contribution directly supports the Mental Health Foundation's work across the UK. The charity’s mission is to build a society where everyone can experience good mental health, and each step taken during Jog 28 helps further that goal.
With February fast approaching, the call to action is urgent. "We are not far away from the start of the challenge," a spokesperson reminded, "so make sure you register in time to take part!"
Key reasons to participate in Jog 28 include:
