Nick Knowles Takes Career Break for Family Emergency
Television presenter Nick Knowles has announced he is stepping away from broadcasting to care for his wife, Katie Dadzie, following a serious medical crisis. The DIY SOS host, known for shows like Break the Safe and Home Is Where the Art Is, will temporarily leave his career after Dadzie required emergency surgery.
The 36-year-old lingerie entrepreneur was rushed to hospital when her cervix ruptured after a hysterectomy, just weeks after the couple married at Braxted Park Estate, Essex, in June 2025. She now faces another major operation, prompting Knowles to prioritize her recovery.
Details of the Medical Emergency
Knowles, 63, told the Daily Mail's Richard Eden: "I've been looking after my wife a lot because she has been through it. She's had a lot of tough times. She's got another operation coming up." He added that he needs to "disappear" for a while to focus on her care.
Dadzie underwent a hysterectomy last summer after enduring "years of pain" from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and adenomyosis. Twelve weeks into recovery, the stitches in her cervix ruptured, causing "crippling abdominal pains."
Dadzie's Terrifying Experience
Describing the ordeal as "the most terrifying day I've ever had," Dadzie shared hospital images and said: "The bit where they took my cervix and sealed it up ruptured, which basically meant my insides went rogue, with crippling abdominal pains, difficulty breathing, incredibly painful gas, blood like Moses parting the Red Sea, fluid, and even my bowel where it definitely didn't belong."
She recalled: "Saturday when it happened I was in so much pain I couldn't move or walk and just cried on my own on the kitchen from 2-5.30am. I nearly passed out from the pain." The hysterectomy also triggered early menopause, leaving her exhausted, though she had been coping reasonably well.
Emergency Surgery and Recovery
Dadzie initially returned to work the day after her hysterectomy, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. She was rushed to hospital for emergency care: "I thought it would be lots of waiting round, but they did blood tests, a CT scan, and had me morphined up and ready for surgery in under 10 hours," she said. Doctors discussed potential bowel perforation, open surgery, and another lumbar puncture. "They had three plans for surgery, and two of them were huge," she added.
While the immediate crisis was resolved, Dadzie requires additional surgery. Knowles is determined to stay by her side: "I will disappear for a while because I'll be looking after her. I'm always worried [about her], but she's a warrior and a fighter, so I know she'll be fine."
