I'm A Celebrity star Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, has voiced his frustration over the quality of stewarding at the World Cup after confronting and reporting a supporter for alleged racism during England's 0-0 draw with Ghana in Boston on Tuesday night.
Confrontation During the Match
Having kicked off Group L with an impressive 4-2 win against Croatia in Dallas, the Three Lions were held to a goalless stalemate by Carlos Queiroz's side. During the match, Burtwistle came across an allegedly racist fan seated in front of him. The YouTuber posted a video following the game, claiming: "We have a situation where the gentleman that is sat there is being racist [points to an empty seat in front of him]. I've reported it to the steward because, kick it out is the saying, I will stand by that. So he's going now to get his supervisor, and we'll see what happens. There's no way he should ever set foot in a stadium or watch a football game ever again."
Steward Response Criticized
A message on screen read: "The man sat in front was making incredibly racist comments toward the Ghanaian national team. Due to this it was only right for me to stand up and deal with this." However, the 24-year-old alleged that a steward informed him that no action could be taken unless the supporter repeated the comment. He said: "Apparently, the steward said he can't kick him out unless he does it again. I said there's no way on earth. All of us have heard it. He's got to go. So we're getting a team to kick him out now or something."
Fan Apologizes but Not Expelled
Burtwistle never disclosed what the supporter said, but in the video, the individual turned around and apologized: "I'm sorry about my comment about Ghana, it won't happen again. Can we just forget about it?" To which Burtwistle replied: "Forget about you being racist!? No, mate." Burtwistle then alleged that while the fan was eventually removed from his seat, he was simply relocated to another section of the stadium to watch the rest of the match.
Outrage Over Inadequate Action
He said: "It's absolutely not good enough from the American stewards, the message before the game the message is kick it out - if you see it, say it. I've gone and reported it, he's not been kicked out of the stadium. We saw him as we left, he's been allowed to watch the whole game after the things he was saying about the Ghana team. I think it's an absolute f***ing disgrace he's been allowed to stay in after I had the evidence and five witnesses heard him say it. It's an absolute f***ing disgrace, it's wrong on every single level that he can stay and get away with it. I did my part, I couldn't have done any more."
