Strictly Star's 'Lost Glow' After Show Exit Revealed at Inquest

Actress Lisa Riley has testified that former Strictly Come Dancing professional Robin Windsor appeared to lose his "glow" after being dropped from the BBC show, as revealed during an inquest into his death. The 44-year-old dancer was found deceased in a hotel room in Shepherd's Bush, west London, in February 2024.

Close Friendship and Shared Struggles

Speaking at West London Coroner's Court on Wednesday, February 11, the Emmerdale star reflected on their deep bond, which began when they were partnered during the 2012 series of Strictly. Riley described how they became inseparable after being paired together, with Windsor serving as her rock following the loss of her mother.

"To say we hit it off was an understatement," a written witness statement from Riley read to the court. "We were literally joined at the hip. I had only just lost my mum in the July. I, myself, was in a very difficult place. Robin was my rock."

Career Decline and Deepening Depression

Windsor joined Strictly in 2010 as a Latin and ballroom dancer, performing with celebrities like Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, Lisa Riley, and Deborah Meaden over four series. A back injury forced him out of the 2014 season, and he was subsequently removed from the professional lineup, though he later returned for a Christmas special.

Riley stated that from this point onward, Windsor "kept slipping deeper and deeper into depression. His glow had gone." She emphasized that their friendship endured beyond the show, built on openness and trust, with Windsor confiding in her about feelings of inadequacy and imposter syndrome.

Personal Struggles and Financial Burdens

The actress detailed Windsor's insecurities about his appearance, which led him to use steroids, and suggested that combined with alcohol, this contributed to his dark periods. She also revealed his mounting financial difficulties, noting he would spend excessively on designer clothing.

"Money problems also played a part of his darker days," Riley testified. "He was drowning in debts which led to weekends I wouldn't hear from him."

Final Contact and Ongoing Inquest

Riley last contacted Windsor around Christmas 2023 after seeing a concerning Facebook post, reaching out via text to check on him. He replied saying he was "fine, just usual ups and downs of life." The inquest into Windsor's death continues as further evidence is examined.
