A mother-of-five from Ayrshire has issued a stark warning after a £15,500 cosmetic procedure intended to boost her confidence left her with a life-threatening infection and severely mismatched breasts.
A Dream Procedure Turns to a Medical Crisis
Lisa Hart, aged 45, decided to undergo a breast reduction and reconstruction in May 2025. After having five children, she felt unhappy with her 36E chest and wanted to 'tidy' her physique. Opting for a clinic in Glasgow over cheaper options abroad, she believed she was securing the highest standard of care for the substantial sum.
Her initial optimism was short-lived. Within a week of the four-hour operation, she noticed a 'luminous green yellow fluid' seeping from her right breast. Despite repeatedly contacting the clinic with her concerns over the next month, she claims her worries were dismissed and she was told the discharge was normal.
Sepsis Diagnosis and Implant Removal
As Lisa's condition worsened, a pea-sized hole opened below her nipple and she began suffering fever-like symptoms. By 9 June 2025, she was forced to attend Ayr University Hospital where medics made a terrifying discovery.
She was diagnosed with sepsis, a potentially fatal bodily reaction to infection, and surgeons had no choice but to remove the implant from her right breast immediately. She remained in hospital for ten days fighting the infection.
Living with the Physical and Emotional Fallout
The ordeal has left Lisa with a permanent and visible asymmetry. Her left breast is a C-cup, while her right is now a B-cup, creating at least a one-cup size difference. The impact on her mental health has been devastating.
'The effect on my mental health was terrible,' Lisa said. 'I keep myself at home and only leave for medical reasons. I now have to wear baggy clothes to cover up my boobs, and I dare not even look at myself in the mirror.' She has even begun treatment for angina, which she attributes to the immense stress of the situation.
Compounding her distress is the difficulty in seeking corrective surgery. Due to the complexity of her case, she claims no other clinic will treat her, leaving her with 'no current plan' and potentially having to return to the same clinic that performed the original operation.
A Cautionary Tale for Others
Lisa now hopes her traumatic experience will serve as a powerful warning to others considering cosmetic surgery. She urges women to be extremely careful and for clinics to be held fully accountable for their conduct.
Her principal message is one of self-acceptance. 'Having the perfect body isn't important,' she stated. 'My message is that everyone is perfect. I want to raise awareness about the dangers of going under the knife... All I wanted was to feel womanly, but now I look back at my before photos and just cry.'
In response to the allegations, a representative from the clinic said they are unable to discuss individual patient details due to confidentiality. They stated the clinic is 'committed to providing safe, high-quality care' and that all concerns are taken seriously through a robust complaints process. They advised anyone with unexpected symptoms after a procedure to seek prompt medical attention.
