Meningitis B Vaccination Sites Established Across Kent Amid Growing Outbreak
Health authorities have established multiple vaccination and treatment sites across Kent in response to a concerning meningitis B outbreak. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has confirmed that the number of cases linked to this outbreak has now reached 29, marking an increase from the previously reported 27 cases.
Tragically, two young people have lost their lives to this disease, highlighting the urgency of the public health response. In response to the escalating situation, health officials have set up six dedicated sites where eligible individuals can receive both vaccines and antibiotics.
Who Is Eligible for Vaccination and Treatment?
According to official guidelines, the following groups are eligible to receive meningitis B vaccines and antibiotics at the established sites:
- Anyone who attended the Club Chemistry venue between March 5 and March 15
- University of Kent students currently living on the Canterbury campus
- University of Kent staff members
- Close contacts of confirmed or suspected meningitis B cases
- Year 12 and 13 pupils at four specific schools in Kent (these students will receive direct notification)
Health officials emphasize that it is not possible to collect medication on behalf of others. All eligible individuals must attend in person to receive their vaccines or antibiotics.
Vaccination Site Locations and Operating Hours
The UKHSA has established two sites at the University of Kent in Canterbury and four additional locations at health centers throughout the county.
