Tamworth Wedding Venue Implements Major Fee Increases
Couples planning weddings at Tamworth's Assembly Rooms are facing a dramatic price hike, with fees increasing by as much as 220 percent. The top-tier wedding package will now cost £10,000, a significant rise from the previous £3,500 charge.
Council Approves Revised Pricing Structure
The Tamworth Borough Council has given the green light to the new fee structure, which also sees the entry-level wedding package triple from £2,000 to £6,000. The council has defended the decision, stating the increases are necessary to bring the venue's pricing in line with similar unique and bespoke locations across the region.
A cabinet report explicitly noted: "These have been increased by between 185 – 220 per cent to bring them in line with other unique and bespoke venues, with the aim of adopting a more commercial approach, and to reflect the cost of staff time associated, and the potential loss of income, including from the Claymore Lounge."
Six-Month Review Pledged
Council Leader Carol Dean emphasized that the new pricing framework is not set in stone. Councillors approved the increases with a firm commitment to review the structure within six months and make adjustments if required.
Dean commented: "We had quite a lot of discussion about how we feel about this and the point we've come to is that this needs to be something that's reviewed, at least in the first six months to see this goes, to see whether it actually works or not. So I'm happy for it to go through now but I'm not happy for it to stay that way forever if it's proven that it doesn't work."
Broader Financial Context
The decision forms part of a wider strategy by the local authority to address a projected budget shortfall exceeding £3 million by the year 2030. The council is currently using its reserves to balance the accounts.
In a related move, the cabinet meeting also determined that most other council fees and charges will see a general increase of five percent across the board. This rise surpasses the current rate of inflation, further highlighting the financial pressures facing the authority.
The Assembly Rooms, located on Corporation Street in Tamworth, is a historic venue that has long been a popular choice for local weddings and events. The substantial fee adjustment marks a significant shift in its operational and financial strategy.
