Phillemon Tsagwa, a 37-year-old father of three from Birmingham, has admitted to drink driving after crashing his Jaguar while more than three times the legal alcohol limit and already disqualified from driving. The incident occurred on February 27 in his own street, where he collided with another driver.
Crash and Arrest
A member of the public witnessed the collision and immediately called 999. Police used CCTV footage and photographs to track Tsagwa down at his home address on Coplow Street. When officers arrived, he provided a breath sample reading of 115 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, more than three times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Court Appearance
Tsagwa, a business development manager, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on June 23, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving. His driving ban remains in effect until his sentencing hearing, which has been adjourned to September 4 for a pre-sentence report.
In a letter to the court, Tsagwa expressed remorse, stating: "I have three young children, I'm aware my behaviour has let them down and my job as their role model is at risk."
Legal Proceedings
The prosecutor informed the court that the 999 call from a witness led to the swift identification of Tsagwa. His solicitor, Ms Begum, told the court that Tsagwa has started attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and acknowledged he needs help with alcohol. She added that his "young children will suffer" if a court order is activated.
The case has been adjourned for a pre-sentence report, with Tsagwa due to return to court on September 4 for sentencing.
