New Reclining Chair Enhances Comfort for Brain Tests at Glangwili Hospital
New Chair Boosts Comfort for Brain Tests at Glangwili Hospital

Patients undergoing brain activity tests at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen are now benefiting from a significant upgrade in comfort and care, thanks to a charitable donation. Hywel Dda Health Charities has provided £3,472 from its special fund to purchase a high-tech reclining chair for the hospital's neurology department.

Enhanced Comfort for Sensitive Procedures

The new chair is specifically designed for patients who require electroencephalogram (EEG) tests, which monitor the brain's electrical activity to help diagnose conditions such as epilepsy. These tests often require patients to remain completely still for extended periods, which can be challenging with standard seating. The reclining chair ensures patients are comfortably supported, reducing movement and improving the quality of the recordings.

Donna Morris, senior service manager for ophthalmology and neurology at Glangwili Hospital, highlighted the impact of the new equipment. "EEG tests require patients to remain still for extended periods, which can be challenging when seating isn't ideal. This new reclining chair has made a significant difference to patient comfort and helps us achieve more accurate diagnostic recordings," she said.

Improved Diagnostic Accuracy and Efficiency

The chair's design helps patients stay still and safe during the procedure, leading to better test results and fewer repeat appointments. This not only benefits patients by reducing anxiety and inconvenience but also streamlines the workflow for medical staff. The investment supports the hospital's goal of providing high-quality care while making efficient use of resources.

Charitable Support Enhances Patient Care

Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, emphasised the role of donations in improving healthcare. "This is a great example of how charitable donations directly improve patient care and staff experience. By funding equipment that supports comfort and clinical effectiveness, we can help make a real difference to patients when they need us most," she said.

The charity relies on public donations to fund projects that enhance care across the health board. Llewelyn added, "We would like to thank everyone who supports Hywel Dda Health Charities. Your generosity allows us to fund projects like this that enhance care across our health board."
