Asda, which operates branches in Birmingham, has issued an urgent recall for a dinner item due to fears it may contain pieces of metal or plastic. The supermarket is recalling its Exceptional by Asda Beer Battered Cod Fishcakes, priced at £3.50 for a 290g pack.
Affected Products
The recall affects all packs with the following use-by dates: 01 May 2026, 02 May 2026, 03 May 2026, 04 May 2026, and 05 May 2026. The barcode for these products is 506308998296. Asda has warned shoppers who have purchased the fishcakes not to eat them.
Reason for Recall
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated that the product may contain pieces of plastic or metal, making it unsafe to consume. The FSA said: 'ASDA is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.'
What Customers Should Do
If you have bought the affected product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest Asda store for a full refund. For further information, contact Asda's customer relations team on 0330 053 0111.
Background on Food Recalls
When a food product has a problem that means it should not be sold, it may be 'withdrawn' (taken off shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued to provide local authorities with specific details on actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.
Asda competes with other major supermarkets including Lidl, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Morrisons.
