DWP Announces Early Benefit Payments for Spring Bank Holiday 2026
DWP Spring Bank Holiday 2026 Early Payment Dates Announced

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced changes to benefit payment dates for the upcoming bank holiday weekend in 2026. The Spring Bank Holiday falls on May 25, and claimants scheduled to receive payments on that date should check their accounts.

If everything proceeds as planned, people due to receive money on May 25 will instead be paid on Friday, May 22. Benefit and State Pension payments that coincide with bank holidays are typically made early on the final working day before the holiday to accommodate staff leave and increased spending during the break. This means certain payment dates for Universal Credit, the State Pension, and other means-tested benefits will be brought forward.

Key Benefit Increases from April 2026

Most UK benefits have increased from April 6, 2026, including Universal Credit and PIP, which rose by 3.8%, while the State Pension increased by 4.8% under the triple lock. Universal Credit standard allowances received an extra boost of around 6.2%, although some new health-related elements will be cut. These changes are automatic.

Key Points to Remember

No Extra Money: These early payments are purely to ensure you are not left without funds over a closed bank weekend. They do not increase the total amount of your benefit.

Universal Credit: If you claim Universal Credit, you can check your exact payment dates and track statements directly on your Universal Credit Online Account.

Child Benefit: HMRC handles Child Benefit independently. You can view your specific payment schedule or verify changes using the GOV.UK Child Benefit Payment Dates Tracker.
