Police have issued an update following the discovery of a woman's body in a canal in Walsall town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Incident Details
The body was recovered from the canal off Wolverhampton Street, near Walsall Town Basin, shortly after 1:15am on Sunday, May 3. A blue tent was visible at the scene, and a full cordon remained in place for several hours after the incident.
Police Investigation
Initially, West Midlands Police stated that they were conducting enquiries and treating the death as unexplained. However, in an update on Tuesday, May 5, the force confirmed that following investigations, the death is no longer considered suspicious.
A police spokesperson said: "We started an investigation after the death of a woman who was pulled from a canal in Wolverhampton Street, Walsall, on Sunday morning (3 May). Following enquiries, we are not treating the death as suspicious, and a file is now being prepared for the coroner. Our thoughts remain with her loved ones at this terrible time."
The authorities have not released the woman's identity, and no further details have been provided at this stage.
