Reform UK has taken control of Walsall Council in a historic victory, winning 40 out of 60 seats and ending the Conservative Party's long-standing control. The Tories secured only 10 seats, while Walsall Community Independents won eight, and Labour managed just a single seat. The Green Party, Liberal Democrats, and Advance UK failed to win any seats.
Key Results
The election marks a dramatic shift in Walsall's political landscape. Former Conservative leader Mike Bird lost his seat, and the Labour group was decimated, with only Councillor Simran Cheema retaining her seat in the Willenhall ward. Reform UK's success in Walsall mirrors their strong performance in other local elections across the region.
Elaine Williams, chair of the Walsall and Bloxwich Reform UK branch and newly elected councillor for Short Heath, said: "It's been an excellent day. It's been a long day but we are really pleased with ourselves. We had an idea we were going to take control but I think this is better than we expected. I'd like to thank everybody who voted for Reform but also to those who didn't vote for us, we are here for all residents of Walsall."
