A talented young wrestler from Wolverhampton has set his sights on becoming an Olympian after securing three national titles. Bhag Singh, aged 17, won gold in the Under-20s 86kg British Wrestling category in May, adding to his English title win last year and a successful defense earlier in 2026.
Ambitions for the Future
Bhag said: "Eventually I want to get into the Europeans, Worlds, and then maybe try for Olympics, and then transition into MMA." The teenager already has a collection of medals from regional and national competitions despite his youth. He recently competed internationally at the Helsinki Open in Finland and the Tallinn Open in Estonia.
Dedication to Wrestling
Bhag started wrestling at age 11 but only dedicated himself fully at 15. He now trains three to four times a week, each session lasting up to two hours. Reflecting on his journey, he said: "I missed weight for my first ever English, national competition. I tried for the British title that year and came third. The next year, I won the English title but lost the British title. Then this year, I defended the English title and won British nationals, making me a three-time national champion."
Competition Experience
Bhag has competed in Leicester, Derby, Birmingham, and London. At the Helsinki Open, he placed fourth out of 26, and at the Tallinn Open, he placed ninth out of 26. He began wrestling at GNG Wednesfield and also trains with Manchester Y-Club. He credits friends and competitors Danoush Jowkar, Marshall Jones, Joab Sneyd, and coaches Jeet Kooner and Dale as inspirations.
Future Plans and Sponsorship
Bhag is eyeing more lower-level competitions and the British squad trials on July 12. To continue competing, he is seeking sponsorships. Follow him on Instagram at @bhag.sc.
