Mowbray Eyes Reunion with Former Birmingham Coach at Blackburn

Tony Mowbray has returned to management with Championship club Blackburn Rovers, four years after leaving Ewood Park. The former Birmingham City manager replaces Michael O'Neill in the hotseat.

Mowbray has been out of work since a brief spell at West Bromwich Albion ended in April 2025. Now, he is ready to resume a coaching career that has spanned more than two decades.

The make-up of Mowbray's backroom team has not yet been revealed. It remains to be seen whether long-term sidekick Mark Venus will join him in the dugout. Venus temporarily took charge of Birmingham City after Mowbray stepped aside to fight illness in 2024, before being stood down when Gary Rowett arrived on an interim basis.

According to Alan Nixon via the Sunderland Echo, Mowbray is keen to reunite with Mike Dodds. Dodds cut his teeth coaching in Birmingham City's academy before being named academy manager in 2020. A move to Sunderland followed, where he encountered Mowbray for the first time.

Dodds formed part of Mowbray's coaching staff at the Stadium of Light and could earn a spot on his team at Blackburn. The 40-year-old has been working as an assistant at Oxford United after a brief stint in charge of Wycombe Wanderers in League One.
