Morgan Rogers has declared that he and Jude Bellingham can '100 per cent' play together for England, as the Aston Villa midfielder continues to impress at club level. The 22-year-old, who has earned two senior caps, believes their contrasting styles would create a formidable partnership in the middle of the park.
Rogers Confident in Bellingham Partnership
Speaking to BirminghamWorld, Rogers said: 'Me and Jude can 100 per cent play together. I think we complement each other well. He likes to drive forward and score goals, while I like to drop deep and pick up the ball. We've played together in the youth teams and it worked really well.'
Rogers, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024, has been a key figure in Unai Emery's side this season, contributing three goals and two assists in the Premier League. His form has caught the eye of England manager Gareth Southgate, who handed him his debut in a friendly against Brazil in March.
Comparison to Bellingham's Role
Bellingham, 21, has become one of the world's most sought-after talents since his move to Real Madrid, scoring 23 goals in all competitions last season. Rogers acknowledges the high standards set by the former Birmingham City star but insists he can match them.
'Jude is an incredible player, but I don't see why we can't play together. We both want to get on the ball and make things happen. In the modern game, you need players who can do both – defend and attack. I think we offer that,' Rogers added.
Villa's Rise Under Emery
Aston Villa have enjoyed a resurgence under Emery, finishing fourth in the Premier League last season to qualify for the Champions League. Rogers has been instrumental, starting 28 of 38 league games and providing a creative spark from midfield.
His partnership with Bellingham could be a long-term solution for England, especially with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon. Rogers remains focused on his club form, however, saying: 'I just need to keep playing well for Villa and see what happens with England. If the chance comes, I'll be ready.'
England's Midfield Options
England boast a wealth of midfield talent, including Declan Rice, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer. Rogers believes his versatility sets him apart. 'I can play as a No. 8, No. 10, or even out wide. That flexibility is important at international level,' he said.
With Euro 2024 approaching, Rogers is determined to force his way into Southgate's plans. 'Every player wants to be at a major tournament. I'll give everything to be there,' he concluded.
