Former Flight Attendant Warns: Never Wear Shorts on a Plane
Never Wear Shorts on a Plane: Ex-Crew Safety Warning

A former Emirates flight attendant has issued a crucial safety and hygiene warning for holidaymakers, urging passengers never to wear shorts during flights. The advice comes from Drake, who shared his insights on TikTok, emphasizing that wearing shorts could lead to severe burns in an emergency evacuation.

Safety Risks of Wearing Shorts

Drake recalled his training with Emirates, where they practiced using emergency slides from various aircraft. He explained that the slides are designed to get passengers down as quickly as possible, but the friction can cause burns. "If you're sliding down, you are supposed to keep your hands on top of your thighs because if you try to use your hands on the slide, your hands will get burned and your skin could get burned off," he said.

He stressed that wearing long trousers provides essential protection. "Obviously, no one wants to get into an emergency, but this could save you a lot of pain," Drake added.

Hygiene Concerns

Other cabin crew members have also highlighted hygiene reasons for wearing long pants. One flight attendant commented, "As a flight attendant – please wear pants, those planes are not properly cleaned!" Another passenger warned, "Always wear long sleeves too because I had a co-worker who got a skin disease from the airplane arm rests."

Discussion Among Passengers

The advice sparked a debate online. One user asked, "Wait, so why do some flight attendant uniforms require skirts then? I know they typically also require pantyhose, but is that enough fabric to prevent the burns you're talking about?" Another added, "If it burns skin, then don't wear workout leggings either! The material will melt and fuse to your skin."

While many travelers opt for comfortable clothing like shorts and sandals when heading to warm destinations, this warning suggests that safety should take priority over comfort. The former flight attendant's message is clear: protect your skin by wearing long trousers, and avoid materials that can melt or cause burns in an emergency.
