Motorists and residents in west Cornwall are being advised to plan ahead as a series of temporary road closures are set to take place across several communities in early 2026. Cornwall Council has published formal notices confirming the schedule for essential utility and repair works, which will affect roads in St Ives, Gulval, Ludgvan, and Leedstown.
Schedule of Essential Works and Road Closures
The council has confirmed a detailed timetable for the disruptions, with signed diversion routes planned for each location. Access to properties will be maintained for vehicles and pedestrians in almost all cases, though some restrictions will apply.
The works begin with poling activities on Angarrack Lane in Connor Downs on January 19, 2026, between 9:30am and 3:30pm on weekdays only. The closure affects the section between Gwinear Road and grid reference SW6025039224.
In St Ives, Trenwith Lane will be shut around the clock from January 21 to January 23, 2026, including weekends, for water connection works. The closure runs between the property known as Wetherby and the junction with Belyars Lane.
Further poling works will see Trenerth Road in Leedstown closed on January 22, 2026 (9:30am-3:30pm, weekdays) between two specific grid references. Shortly after, Quarry Hill in Gulval will be closed for a day on February 2, 2026 during the same weekday hours for its entire length.
Key February Closures and Access Information
Significant works are scheduled for early February. Fore Street in St Ives will be fully closed for defect repairs from February 3 to February 5, 2026, operating 24 hours a day but on weekdays only. During this closure, pedestrian access to properties will be maintained, but vehicle access will be restricted.
On February 3, 2026, the road between Badgers Cross and Chysauster Road in Gulval will also be closed for poling works for one day during weekday working hours.
A notable closure affecting a central area will take place in Ludgvan. Both Castle Road and The Square will be closed for fibre connection works from February 4 to February 6, 2026, 24 hours a day including weekends. Castle Road will be shut between The Square and Bowglas Close, while The Square will be fully closed.
